This past Tuesday was my first day keeping Ryan, and I have to admit, it wasn't that bad. I was a little skeptical about how crazy it would be with two 19 month old boys running around my house, but I was totally surprised that it went over so well!
At about 7:45 that morning, I got a knock on my back door. I was expecting Mike to drop off Ryan, but when I got to the door, all I saw was little Ryan standing at my door all by himself....he had just walked right on over all by himself! It was so cute! Mike of course was standing on their patio watching (did I mention they are our next door neighbors?). Anyways, the boys hung out and fought over toys for about an hour before we packed up and headed to open-house for school. Part of skepticism was about loading up the boys and getting them out of the car without one getting away from me. Luckily, I had a plan- unbuckle Jake first since he is directly behind me and have him walk over to Ryan's side as I walk around the car; unbuckle Ryan and hold him as I reach for Jake; carry them safely across the parking lot until I can put them down on the side walk. Whew! It worked! I'm trying to avoid lifting the two boys (being pregnant and all) as much as possible, and that is the best plan I could come up with. Anybody have any other suggestions?
Open house went well; did I mention they are in the same class? And that they are the only 2 boys out of a class of 8 or so? Mack daddies for sure! Anyways, the most difficult part of the day (other than the constant "Jake, you need to share with Ryan, " "Ryan, it's time for Jake to have a turn," etc) WAS LUNCH! By the time I got them settled after they fought over each other's food. lunch was over and I hadn't eaten! Lunch is definitely gonna be a learning process for me!
Don't get me wrong about the boys, they fight from time to time, but they really play well together. Jake is having to adjust sharing his toys with Ryan and Ryan is having to adjust to being away from home. It's an adjustment for everyone but I think it's gonna go well. As you can tell from the pictures, the boys really do love each other and love to make each other laugh!

These are great! I love to see them laughing!! Thanks for the post. I needed it today. :)
Your strategy is pretty much what I do every day! Sometimes I can get one to hold my
hand and walk while I carry the other. Congrats on baby #2! We're excited for you guys!
i rely on a stroller for my two. that or the wagon if we're going somewhere that requires lots of walking...and at the grocery store they're both in the cart. containment is key with 65+ lbs of boy to haul. if you parked close would they both hold a hand?
lunch: i always wait till the boys are napping to eat. just relaxing to eat a meal while they sleep and watch tv, etc. i prep everything before they go down so that it's ready to go when they go to sleep...just my rule. dont know if they nap @ the same time or not.
