UAB Signing Day Lunch

Jake is so cute looking at his daddy!
Tonya and Trent, Tyson and Jake, and Brian and Callie--all the babies on staff
He's thinking about smiling!
There it is! This is totally his mama's fat face! Check out his dimple!
Still Smiling!
We had a very exciting day yesterday because it was UAB's signing day for this year's football recruiting class. For those of you who don't know the importance of this day, it signifies the end of many long, lonely stressful weeks! It also signifies the end of recruiting weekends (4 total in January and several in December) where the husbands are also busy the whole weekend. Needless to say, the coaches' wives decided to throw a big lunch to celebrate this day. We had a blast!! It was the first time I have gotten together with the coaches' wives since the Christmas party, and we always have a great time when we get together. It was so nice, too, to get Jake out of the house. He did so well; in fact, he was so full of smiles when we got home, I couldn't miss the photo op.

The Other Women in Jake's Life

Tyson's mom, Mary Ann (aka Grandmama)
My granddaddy (aka granddaddy) and grandmother
(aka MaMa) and Ryleigh Kate (aka RK or mini-Beth)

My sister, AmyMy cousin, Christy (who is like my other sister)

I have realized two things since starting this blog all of one day ago: 1) I am addicted; 2) people might get their feelings hurt if they are not included on this page. I wish I could post a picture of every family member or friend who has either visited, brought food, sent a present, etc. but that would be very overwhelming. By the way, thanks to everyone who did any of the above. Tyson and I are so blessed to have such great friends and family. For now, though, I will post pictures of 4 very important ladies in Jake's life. I don't have any pictures of Tyson's family, but as soon as I can get near a scanner or can snap a picture with them, then I will. In fact, Tyson and I might need to make a trip to Tampa really soon to see his only living grandparent, his mom's mom Julia, and to introduce her to her first great grandchild. I am sorry if there are people I am still excluding; I am gonna try my best to get you all on here. Thanks for visiting!

First Stroller Ride

He is totally smiling! He loves to be outside!

Rocco, Jake, Sofia, and Merritt's hand

Today was a warm day in Birmingham (73 degrees), so I decided to take Jake on his first stroller ride. We walked around our neighborhood and went to visit our friend Merritt and her kids Rocco and Sofia. He did so well; he only started to get fussy at Merritt's house once he realized we weren't moving anymore, so we hit the road. I just hope he continues to do well on walks so that Mommy can work on getting some of this baby weight off!

Jake's new buddy.

Jake and Ryan and their tired mamas.

Ryan

While we were in Thomaston, our next door neighbors, Ashley and Mike, welcomed their new little man, Ryan, to this world. Once we got back from our trip (and once Ashley felt up to it), I took Jake over to meet his new friend. As you can tell from the pictures, Jake looks like a monster compared to little Ryan even though he is only 2 1/2 weeks older! I am sure Ryan will catch up to Jake really soon and they will be knocking around before we know it! Congrats Ashley and Mike!

Jake turns one month old!

Some of Mommy's camera work! Aren't I cute?

My fist is even better than mommy's milk!

My sweet mama with Jake in the hospital.

As you can tell by how long it took me to start this blog, time has really flown by!! Our little boy turned one month old February 4, 2008. He has already gotten so much bigger; he is almost too big for his 0-3 month clothes! It has been a crazy month with adjusting to having a newborn and with Tyson traveling so much. Luckily my mom came and stayed with me for almost the whole month on and off to help out, and boy did she!! I couldn't have survived this first month without her. Thanks, Mom! And thanks, dad, for letting her come and stay so long. I don't know how you managed without her!

First trip to Thomaston

All the cousins: Connor, Jake, RK, Chase,
Spenser, and Carson. Jake is the only one that
doesn't have blonde hair and blue eyes!!

We celebrated MLK's birthday and Jake's 2nd week of life on the road to Thomaston to see my parents. Tyson had to go on the road recruiting, so we packed up and headed towards help. While in Thomaston, we took a day trip over to Cochran so that Jake could see my grandparents and meet his cousins--my cousin Chris' boys Connor (7), Carson (17 months), and Spenser (5 months) and my cousin Christy's kids Chase (5) and Ryleigh Kate (22 months). I am so lucky to have such a great family, and I am so blessed that my grandparents are such a big part of my life!! We miss y'all and wish we could see y'all more! Happy 81 st Birthday Granddaddy, and thanks for all the hospitality MaMa!!

Happy Birthday!

We are proud to announce the birth of Jacob Miller Summers. He was born January 4, 2008 at 7:31 am weighing in at 9 lbs 8 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. Jake was actually born 2 years to the day of mine and Tyson's first date. Boy how time has flown!! We were hoping he would come on our anniversary (December 30...what a great tax write-off that would have been), but we are just so thankful he is finally here and is so healthy (and chunky too). All I have to say is that this boy better be one heck of a football player!! Willie Martinez (the defensive coordinator for UGA) already said he would offer him a scholarship just based off birth size alone!! I know he was kidding, but it made me feel better about those 55 pounds I gained during pregnancy!!
