Oh the Things That He Says...

In the last month or so, Jake has really started saying a lot of 2 and 3 word phrases. He is learning some adjectives (colors, "big," "new," etc) and is starting to use them with words that he knows. If Jake doesn't have a word to put with another word, he just throws in a "Mama," "Daddy," "hey," or "bye" for good measure. Here are some of the things he is saying:
  • "new shoes"
  • "big ball"
  • "Ryan blue eyes"...except he doesn't say "Ryan" perfectly, but it's too hard to spell or repeat exactly how he says it :)
  • "big bull"- meaning big bulldozer...one of my personal favs
  • "pink heart"
  • "hey bug!"
  • "Daddy booball (football) play"...I'm trying to teaching him that Daddy doesn't exactly "play" football anymore and that he coaches, but Jake doesn't quite get it.
  • "Ryan night night?"
Don't get me wrong, there are still a lot of words that Jake doesn't know or can't say, and those words have a name, "bah-doo." We have no idea exactly what "bah-doo" means, but it is said pretty frequently around our house. I can't wait for Jake to be able what it means; I am so tired of hearing "bah-doo."
Of course, I have to throw in some funny things my child has said here lately:
  • Ryan was doing something he wasn't supposed to (I can't remember exactly) and I said, "Ryan, no no!" Well, Ryan continued to do whatever it was, so I said, "Ryan, do you hear Miss Beth? I said no no!" Jake, out of nowhere, says, "NO NO BETH!"
  • I was taking off Jake's diaper last night to put him in the bath tub, and I made a huge mistake...I didn't check to see what was in it. Off came the diaper and out came the poop directly onto the floor. Jake took one look and said, "Dog doo doo!"
  • The other Sunday morning, I wasn't feeling very well, so Tyson and Jake drove to McDonalds to get me some breakfast. Tyson said he rolled up to the window to order and accidentally rolled down Jake's window instead of his; the lady says, "May I take your order?" Next thing he knew, Jake quickly replies "roast...peas." The lady says, "Excuse me sir?" Jake says again, "Roast...peas." Hahaha! That one makes me laugh every time. I wish y'all could here how he rolls his "R's"...he sounds french or something; it totally makes the whole "Roast and peas" thing that much more funny. What a funny kid.

Ryan and his "blue eyes"

And last but not least, Jake hugging Ryan after not being so nice to him.

Heartbreaker

We just lost 35-33 to SMU in a game we were picked to win; it was a real heartbreaker. Jake was an angel, though, for the most part and even sat still in the stands for a whole quarter and a half. He loved it! He kept saying "Blaze! Daddy...booball (football)! D! BayBay (UAB)! Yay!" It was so cute; however, it was short-lived. We resorted to the coaches' wives box in the middle of the 2nd quarter and stayed there for the remainder of the game. Hey, baby steps, though! Maybe one day we can actually make it through a whole game in the stands...or even a whole half of a game! Sorry for the lack of pictures...I left the camera in the car after tailgating. Next up, Troy next Saturday. It is televised, but I'm not sure of all the details right now. Go Blazers!

2nd Week of School

I'm really not a bad mama...I did take the obligatory "1st day of school" pictures, but they didn't turn out that well. Not that this photoshoot turned out much better, but I couldn't put it off any longer. So here you have it, Jake's 4th day of school.

Jake is having a lot of fun at school this year; he has a lot of friends in his class from last year and this summer as well as his good buddy, Ryan. Jake's teacher says that Jake and Ryan are "two balls of energy" and just run around and chase each other like they're brothers. Too cute. Jake's teacher also says that Jake has "a lot of girlfriends." I knew this would be the case since Caroline, Macy, Helen, and Rose are in his class again this year, and those are some of his favorites. It seems, though, that Jake prefers Rose this week, so we'll see. Such a stud for 20 months old.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Go Blazers!

Two Peas in a Pod...

Got milk?

...well, actually a fridge! And I promise I did not stage this; they totally got in there on their own accord. At least Jake has a fridge buddy now!

Sue

December 8, 1951 - September 5, 2009

My aunt Sue, my mom's sister, passed away this past Saturday in her sleep. It was very unexpected, and we are all deeply saddened by her loss. Please pray for my family- especially my grandparents, my cousins (Chris, Christy, and Trey), and my mom as we mourn her loss. Thanks.

In the picture above (Easter 1980), Sue is holding me as my mom and sister hunt for Easter eggs. I've always loved this picture of Sue because it just captures her beauty.

UAB vs Rice

Jake wasn't very happy being woken up from his nap,
but I had to take a picture before we got in the rain!
My awesome parents and Jake

Guess I need to get some green crocs, huh?
This was right before he got his head stuck!

Sophia is trying to get Jake and Callie to kiss!
WE WON!!
I wish I had that "glow," but pregnancy
is not a good look for me right now.
We're so proud of Daddy!

Go Blazers! We beat Rice today 44-24! The weather was pretty nasty, but otherwise it was an awesome game! Jake, my parents, and I enjoyed the game from the coaches' wives box, so we were lucky enough to stay dry. I'm pretty sure we were the only dry ones in the stadium!

Jake had fun at his first game of the year. At first, he would get really upset whenever anyone would yell or make loud noises, but he got used to it after a while. He mostly just ate his way through the game, no joke. He ate a snack-trap full of goldfish, an entire hotdog, a box of popcorn, and too many cookies to count. Eitherway, it was just a nice change to actually be able to watch the game versus chasing him around. I do have to thank my parents, especially my mom, for coming to the game and helping out so much!
Go Blazers! I'm so proud of you, Tyson!

Life With Two 19 Month Olds!

Day 1 early a.m. - two unsure faces!
By lunch- two silly boys cracking each other up!

Ryan says, "See Mom! I'm having so much fun!"

This past Tuesday was my first day keeping Ryan, and I have to admit, it wasn't that bad. I was a little skeptical about how crazy it would be with two 19 month old boys running around my house, but I was totally surprised that it went over so well!

At about 7:45 that morning, I got a knock on my back door. I was expecting Mike to drop off Ryan, but when I got to the door, all I saw was little Ryan standing at my door all by himself....he had just walked right on over all by himself! It was so cute! Mike of course was standing on their patio watching (did I mention they are our next door neighbors?). Anyways, the boys hung out and fought over toys for about an hour before we packed up and headed to open-house for school. Part of skepticism was about loading up the boys and getting them out of the car without one getting away from me. Luckily, I had a plan- unbuckle Jake first since he is directly behind me and have him walk over to Ryan's side as I walk around the car; unbuckle Ryan and hold him as I reach for Jake; carry them safely across the parking lot until I can put them down on the side walk. Whew! It worked! I'm trying to avoid lifting the two boys (being pregnant and all) as much as possible, and that is the best plan I could come up with. Anybody have any other suggestions?

Open house went well; did I mention they are in the same class? And that they are the only 2 boys out of a class of 8 or so? Mack daddies for sure! Anyways, the most difficult part of the day (other than the constant "Jake, you need to share with Ryan, " "Ryan, it's time for Jake to have a turn," etc) WAS LUNCH! By the time I got them settled after they fought over each other's food. lunch was over and I hadn't eaten! Lunch is definitely gonna be a learning process for me!

Don't get me wrong about the boys, they fight from time to time, but they really play well together. Jake is having to adjust sharing his toys with Ryan and Ryan is having to adjust to being away from home. It's an adjustment for everyone but I think it's gonna go well. As you can tell from the pictures, the boys really do love each other and love to make each other laugh!

Coming in April 2010...

....Baby Summers #2!

Yes, we are pregnant and super excited! I'm only 6 weeks and 4 days along, but after my miscarriage in February, they have already put me through a battery of tests and the doctor says it's okay to share the news!

I actually found out when I was barely 3 weeks along; in fact, I found out on my sister's birthday (August 8) at her house in Tifton! It was so exciting to be able to share the news with my mom, mother-in-law, and sis in person, but unfortunately, I had to call Tyson back in Birmingham and tell him over his lunch break in the middle of football camp. Either way, we are thrilled! My due date is April 24, 2010; I will probably have a scheduled c-section the week before that if I don't go into labor early (like I did with Jake so there is a huge chance for that). Tyson and I are both praying this baby stays safe and sound tucked inside as long as it can, but we wouldn't mind an appearance on April 11 (Tyson's birthday)!

As far as Jake is concerned, he of course has no clue what's going on. I've been trying to teach him that Mommy has a baby in her tummy (mainly so he'll quit kicking me during diaper changes!), and he loves to kiss my belly and say "baby." Other than that, he's clueless...I'm pretty sure his world is gonna be rocked in 7 months! And for those of you who are wondering, that means Jake and baby #2 will be 2 years and 3 months apart! But thank goodness for a Spring Practice baby!

I'm feeling ok right now. I obviously found out a couple of days before Jake's swine flu hit and was lucky to avoid catching it, but it was a pretty rough start to the pregnancy to say the least. Do you see why I called my mama? Anyways, pregnancy is definitely more difficult with a toddler to chase behind but I'm making it...just the normal nausea and fatigue that comes with pregnancy. I feel the exact same so far that I did with Jake, so I'm leaning towards thinking this one is another boy; in fact, I already had "the dream" twice that it was a boy. We'll see in about 10 more weeks! Of course, though, more than anything, we are praying (and ask for your prayers, too) that this baby is healthy and that my pregnancy is uncomplicated. Especially after the miscarriage in February, I will never take a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby for granted! God is good!

Oh, and sorry for the picture of a picture, but it was the best I could do. The baby's heartbeat was 144 bpm today...a good strong heart beat praise the lord! I go back in 3 weeks for another glance and will be sure to post those pictures. Until then, your prayers are always appreciated! Thank you all!
