I'm an Aunt!...Day 2

Jace Christian Howell
Proud Grandma of 2!
Look at this look he's giving me!

Doesn't Amy look amazing?

Uncle Bobby and Jace

The Fam

The baby that never sleeps

Nice Mohawk!

I just can't get enough of Jace!

I just got back to Birmingham, and I'm already missing my little nephew. Don't get me wrong, I am so glad to be home so that I can squeeze my own little man, but it tugged on my heart having to say goodbye to my sis and little Jace. I sure do wish I could see them more; it's amazing how much I love that little boy already!

Amy, Courtney, and Jace all seem to be doing well. Amy has been such a trooper throughout this whole thing; she continues to amaze me. She is going to be such a good mama! And Jace is such a sweet baby. He is by far the most alert newborn I have ever seen; he literally just hung out the whole day wide awake. Anyways, enjoy the pics...can you tell that I am one proud Aunt? Oh, and don't worry...I will be sure to post some pics on Jake soon! I think he has gotten even cuter (if that's possible) since I've been gone! :)

Oh, and in case you are wondering, Jace is named after Courtney's grandfather. I think they are going to nickname him "JC," but we will see. It is definitely confusing with his name being so close to Jake's, but we'll get used to it! Poor Jake has only heard me say it once, and he thought I was referring to him!

My sister was amazing!!...and beautiful too!
The new family!
The proud Uncle and Aunt

I am so proud to announce the birth of my nephew, Jace Christian Howell. Jace was born today, June 13, 2009 at 5:50 pm weighing in at 7 lbs 6 oz and 20.5 inches long. Amy, Courtney, and Jace are all doing very well!

Tyson and I were both so lucky to be able to be there for his birth; it's kind of a crazy story how it all happened. I was supposed to work Friday and Saturday night at the hospital and Tyson worked a football camp this weekend in Athens, so Tyson's Mama came and kept Jake at our house. Long story short, my dear friend Casey Rae volunteered Friday night to work my Saturday night shift so that I could spend some time with my family. Little did I know that my sister would go into labor early Saturday morning. I had just enough time to catch some zzz's before I loaded up and headed to Atlanta. Tyson's mom stayed on through to watch Jake for us, and Tyson met me in Atlanta. It was so perfect how it unfolded. I couldn't imagine not being able to be there for my nephew's birth. I just hate that Jake couldn't be there, but Northside is kind of strict on children visiting.

I have a ton of pictures, but I just wanted to put up a few so that everyone could get a sneak peak at what my cutie nephew looks like. We are so blessed! Praise God for a safe delivery and healthy baby! Now here's hoping to a speedy recovery for my sis!

My Little Bubble Blower

The look of concentration!

"I just can't understand why these darn things keep coming out of my mouth!"

Jake did take a little break from the bubbles to stop and smell the grass!
...and slide down the slide while simultaneously making the "fish face"

"See you later!"

Pool Party with Tyson's Players

2009 UAB Linebackers and Kickers

Alternately titled: Great kids. Great time. Bad burgers.

Today, we had Tyson's players over for a pool party to welcome the incoming freshman. Since this is going on our third year here at UAB, I am really enjoying getting to know these kids and watching them "grow" (both literally and figuratively). What's weird, though, is that they call me "Mrs. Summers." It makes me feel so old!

Jake was really cute with the guys. Some had more to do with Jake than others, but that's to be expected with big, macho football players. One of my favs, Keon (the guy in yellow second to the left), scooped up Jake when I wasn't looking and took him to swim in the baby pool to give me a break. Mind you, Jake isn't too keen on the water just yet, but Jake was tough and acted like Mr. Cool with Keon. It was so funny...I could tell that Jake totally wanted to cry but he was trying so hard not to! One of my other new favs, Danny White (the guy sitting to the right of Tyson) was so sweet to play ball with Jake while the other guys were swimming; I don't know if Danny knows this or not, but he has made a friend for life with Jake. Jake kept calling him "Nanny" and I thought it was so cute, but apparently the other boys thought it was even cuter and kept giving Danny a hard time. I think Danny might have a new nickname now. :)

We had a great time with the guys; they are such good kids. I am so excited for the upcoming season! Go Blazers!

Aunt "Mayme"

Neither of my subjects were too willing to be photographed on this day!

One of the first stops on our trip this week was to visit my sister Amy and her husband Courtney. Jake was starting to get a little ill, so we didn't get to stay too long, unfortunately. The whole way home and for the rest of the trip, all Jake could talk about was "Mayme." He is super cute when he says her name; he must know who he takes after! No joke, Jake looks just like Amy's baby pictures...Tyson will even agree on this one. Not only do they both have brown eyes and blond hair, but their faces look so much alike in baby pictures! I hope Jake is as beautiful as my big sis is! We love you "Mayme" and Courtney!

**Scroll on down! Lots of posts today!!

More Pictures!

Picture taken in May 1954...Pretty hot, huh, for my Grandma?

I love my mama!
You don't even want to know what they were looking at!

"Seriously, can we go now?"

This is right before, sweet Chase did this...
Yep, Jake's croc in the creek!
And Jake wasn't too happy about it!!
Cool Rider even made an appearance!

Jake and I just got home from a fun but exhausting week visiting my friends and family. We started the trip on Sunday and went to Atlanta for my friend Anna's baby shower. Unfortunately, I was too busy chasing around a certain little boy to snap any pictures, but we had a great time as usual! We also got to stop by and see my sis and her hubby and their newly renovated house (pictures on that later!), and from there we spent the night with my parents. We then spent Monday and Tuesday at my grandparents, but we had to cut the trip short (due to my severe cat allergy) and head back to my parents. Between multiple doses of Benadryl, a child who refused to sleep in his car seat, a child who refused to sleep, it was a LONG trip! It was totally worth it, though!

While we were in Cochran, we celebrated an early 78th birthday for my grandmother. Unfortunately, she didn't get a quiet, peaceful meal like she deserved....she got a meal with 3 out of 6 (almost 7) of her great-grandchildren! Enough said on that one! Happy early Birthday, MaMa! We love you!

Any Day Now!

Many of you have asked me how this certain someone is doing, and although she wouldn't give consent to have her photograph on my blog, here she is! This doesn't count, right? Anyways, she and baby boy are doing well. It shouldn't be much longer now as she is due June 16th! We are all so excited and awaiting baby boy's arrival! Please keep them in your prayers!

17 Months Old!

Today, Jake turns 17 months old. I can't believe he will be a year and a half old next month! Crazy!

As usual, I can't remember all the new things Jake is doing that I wanted to write about. Oh well, I'll try my best:

  • He can hum the tune of "Three Blind Mice"
  • He imitates a baby by crawling on the floor saying "baby"
  • He can tell you when he is about to "doo doo" and then precedes to do so in his diaper
  • He can point to all his body parts and names most of them
  • He loves things that make loud noises (planes, trains, cars, trucks, lawn mowers, etc) and can identify them when asked to
  • He is not at all interested in animals...except dogs and ducks
  • He still says at least one new word a day...don't get me wrong, his words aren't always articulated very well, but Tyson and I can understand what he means
  • He can tell you when he's ready to go "night night" and heads toward his crib
  • He folds his little hands in prayer before bedtime (melts my heart)
  • He can open any and every door and has even taken the child safety door thing off two of our doors! He is now attempting to unlock the dead-bolt.

These past 2 weeks have really been a struggle for Jake in terms of sleep. Not only was he recovering from an ear infection, but he is trying to drop a nap and is having a hard time doing so AND he is cutting teeth like crazy! 2 weeks ago he was cutting the rest of his bottom row of teeth AT THE SAME TIME, and this week, he is cutting the whole rest of his top row of teeth AT THE SAME TIME. He is literally going to have his whole set of teeth by the next couple of weeks! Poor baby, though...he doesn't do very well without his sleep! And neither does his mama!

It's amazing to see Jake's little personality blossoming. For instance, take meal time alone, and that says A LOT about the little person he's becoming (I hope). Jake has become more "determined" when using his fork; we've always let him use it during meals, but it just kind of sat there and got used from time to time. Now, though, Jake is determined to pick up every piece of food with his fork and he will sit there until it is all gone. No joke, meals may take 45 minutes or so, but he will sit there quietly and patiently until every little piece has been eaten by fork. Only if he is really starving will he grab food by his hand. I'm just so proud of him for being so patient (because neither Mommy or Daddy are this) and so determined...maybe I'm over-analyzing this, you think?

Jake is such a helper these days; his teachers have said this all along and I definitely agree. For instance, in the mornings, I change his diaper and get him dressed. Jake then takes the diaper into the kitchen and throws it away; he then comes back and puts his dirty clothes in the laundry room. You can't train them too early, right? He is also really good about putting away his toys and such. I'm really trying to take advantage of this time because I know the terrible two's, which experts say begins at 18 months, is right around the corner. Plus, I know his future wife will appreciate the fact that I made him clean up behind himself! :)

As usual, this is all I can think of. Jake and I are exhausted after our trip around Georgia these last couple of days, but I'll try to post more pictures soon!! Happy 17 month birthday, Jake!

Daddy, This is what you are missing....

My first tea party
"Would you like some sugar with that?"

My first lawn mower ride with Granddaddy! Ryleigh Kate and Granddaddy

Sweet kisses from MaMa

My first lawn mower trailer ride

Mommy's first lawn mower ride...as an "adult"

Good ole' South Georgia heat....AND GNATS!

A sweet, sweaty, sleepy boy

Jake and I are visiting my Grandparents for a couple of days in South Georgia while Tyson is hard at work. Apparently, Tyson doesn't know what to do without us. :) I'm glad to know that we're missed, but I think we actually miss him more. We are having so much fun, though, as you can tell between having tea parties, going for lawn mower rides, and just hanging out with the cousins and grandparents. I'm sure they'll be plenty more pictures to come. Have a great week!
