3rd generation of #32!
Whew! Yesterday was a day for the record books of absolute chaos!! First, Jake had school and then his 5 year check up. 4 shots and one angry/upset little boy later, we had opening ceremonies for the first day of t-ball on the other side of town. More on opening ceremonies in a bit, but here is a little bit about Jake's check-up so I can remember.
Jake weighed 52 lbs (95%) and was 45.5 inches tall (90%), which is about normal for how he has grown so far so I wasn't really shocked at his numbers. However, the nurse practitioner's response to Jake's growth chart was, "according to the BMI (body mass index), Jake is considered obese." What? Are you kidding me? Does my child look obese to you? Now, I'm quite familiar with the ole BMI and think it absolutely ludicrous, so it wouldn't surprise me it would say something so stupid. But why in the world would she even suggest that to me?? She then began to question what he eats and drinks!!! I don't easily get offended, but COME ON!!!! Ridiculous!!! Anyways, she later said that the BMI doesn't account for muscle tone and Jake clearly had a lot of muscles. Whatever, lady...his dad and 2 grandfathers played college football, it's in his genes. ;)
Other than the ridiculousness about his size, all went well at the appointment. Jake seems to have developed exercise-induced asthma over the last few months, so we're starting to treat him for that. And that's it....well, other than trying to hold down my "obese" child and giving him 4 shots! Whew!
After we finished the appointment, we ran and grabbed supper and headed to the ball field across town. Jake has his first little league t-ball game tomorrow, and they kicked off the season with the opening ceremonies.
Each of the teams took the outfield and were called up one-by-one to get their hats and run the bases. I tried to snap a few pictures, but I couldn't figure out the lighting and the settings on my camera so they came out a little blurry. Jake just had the best time out there dancing around and playing with his friends while he waited for his turn. He seems to really be into t-ball right now and all things associated with it. :) Anyways, I'm sure there will be plenty of more t-ball pictures to come. Go Grasshoppers!!
