5 Year Check-Up and Opening Ceremonies

 Jake and his buddy, Ryan
Our neighborhood karate buddies- Caden, Sean, W, Ryan, and J

Waiting to get his hat :)

 Skipping the bases??
Knightro came and surprised the kids and threw out the first pitch!
Walker obviously loves him some Sean!

OMG, my little man is just precious in that uniform!!

3rd generation of #32!

Whew!  Yesterday was a day for the record books of absolute chaos!!  First, Jake had school and then his 5 year check up.  4 shots and one angry/upset little boy later, we had opening ceremonies for the first day of t-ball on the other side of town.  More on opening ceremonies in a bit, but here is a little bit about Jake's check-up so I can remember.

Jake weighed 52 lbs (95%) and was 45.5 inches tall (90%), which is about normal for how he has grown so far so I wasn't really shocked at his numbers.  However, the nurse practitioner's response to Jake's growth chart was, "according to the BMI (body mass index), Jake is considered obese."  What?  Are you kidding me?  Does my child look obese to you?  Now, I'm quite familiar with the ole BMI and think it absolutely ludicrous, so it wouldn't surprise me it would say something so stupid.  But why in the world would she even suggest that to me??  She then began to question what he eats and drinks!!!  I don't easily get offended, but COME ON!!!!  Ridiculous!!!  Anyways, she later said that the BMI doesn't account for muscle tone and Jake clearly had a lot of muscles.  Whatever, lady...his dad and 2 grandfathers played college football, it's in his genes. ;)

Other than the ridiculousness about his size, all went well at the appointment.  Jake seems to have developed exercise-induced asthma over the last few months, so we're starting to treat him for that.  And that's it....well, other than trying to hold down my "obese" child and giving him 4 shots!  Whew!

After we finished the appointment, we ran and grabbed supper and headed to the ball field across town.  Jake has his first little league t-ball game tomorrow, and they kicked off the season with the opening ceremonies.

Each of the teams took the outfield and were called up one-by-one to get their hats and run the bases.  I tried to snap a few pictures, but I couldn't figure out the lighting and the settings on my camera so they came out a little blurry.  Jake just had the best time out there dancing around and playing with his friends while he waited for his turn.  He seems to really be into t-ball right now and all things associated with it. :)  Anyways, I'm sure there will be plenty of more t-ball pictures to come.  Go Grasshoppers!!

First Time in the Pool for 2013!

Don't let this pictures fool you- the pool was FREEZING!!  However, it was really hot outside and we had just spent the entire day sweating at Sea World, so the kids really wanted to go in the pool.  With the Maddens being in town and all, it was a special occasion, so we caved.  Purple lips and all, it definitely made for some fun memories for these kiddos. :)

Thanks for coming Ashley and Mike!!  We had so much fun and can't wait for y'all to come back!!

Best Trip to Sea World Ever!

 Summers + Maddens

Ryan and Jake on the teacups.
 Kaitlyn and Ashley
 Tyson and Walker.
Tyson and Ashley braved the kiddie ride with the big boys even though Tyson is scared of heights...and roller coasters...and anything fun. ;)
The boys and Ashley loved the ride...Tyson, not so much.

Franklin!!

 Feeding the dolphins.

 Jake was a natural.
Walker preferred throwing his fish to the seagulls.  Bahaha!

While the Maddens were here this past weekend, we took them to Sea World and had one of the best times we've ever had.  We usually make our trips there pretty short, but we ended staying longer and doing a tad more than normal since we wanted to make sure they got their money's worth and got to see it all in 1 day.

We saw the sharks and stingrays, went to the Shamu show, rode the rides, fed the dolphins, and saw Franklin.  I'm sure we did a lot more in between, but those are just the high points.  I'd have to say, though, that my favorite part was feeding the dolphins.  For some reason, we've never done that before and it was so cool!  Even though I never actually fed the dolphin because I was too busy clicking away, I just enjoyed watching Tyson and the kids do it. Unfortunately, Tyson is blocking Kaitlyn and Walker in the photos, but I was so proud of them not being afraid to touch the fish and actually trying.  The wall was a tad too tall for them (and even Jake and Ryan) to reach over and feed the dolphins, but they tried. :)  Like I said in the caption, I'm pretty sure Walker fed more seagulls than dolphins.  Ha!

Splash Pad!!

On Friday, after our Disney experience and after the little ones napped, we took the boys (Kaitlyn was still asleep) to the splash pad down the road from our house.  Somehow, I've never been to this splash pad before, but it was awesome and we'll definitely be back!  The kids had so much fun and enjoyed playing in the water in this warm Florida weather in February.  :)

"Best Friends Breakfast"

 My boys and me
 Kaitlyn got lei'd
Jake, Ryan, and Kaitlyn with Stitch.  Walker was at the table screaming his head off!!
 Lilo!!
 Mickey!!
Lilo again sans the Madden kids.
Mike was sweet enough to hold Walker for the picture with Pluto.

OMG!! We just had the best weekend!  Our best friends from Birmingham (who now live in South Carolina), the Maddens, came down to spend the weekend with us.  I have got a ton more pictures, but for right now, these are our pictures from the "Best Friends Breakfast" at the Polynesian Resort at Disney.

The Maddens weren't quite ready to take their crew to Disney just yet, so we thought a character breakfast might be a good way to see some of the characters and see a little bit of Disney without spending a fortune.  Our kids had fun and really enjoyed seeing Lilo & Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto.  Overall, though, I think the kids were just glad to be back together...FINALLY after a year!

More to come. :)
